At nineteen years old, I will be one of the youngest people ever to cycle solo across the United States of America.

About Me.
My Name is Greg Evans, and I am 19 years old.  I am currently on a Gap-Year before going to the University of Aberdeen to study Economics.

The idea of such a trip came to me having accidentally stumbled upon a blog of someone undertaking a similar in the summer of 2008.  I was in the midst of exam revision at the time, and barely gave  a second thought to the idea.  However, once exams were over, I revisited the blog, becoming increasingly interested in the idea.
As summer drew to a close, I had firmly decided that this was what I wanted to do in the year I had before returning to full-time education.  I arranged a meeting with the author of said blog, Andy Strang, to discuss the logistics of such a feat.  I came away from this more encouraged than ever,  and set about planning almost immediately.

On the 20th October 2008, this website went live.

In December 2008, I booked my flights.  I will travel to Yorktown VA on the 1st of May and return home from San Francisco on the 21st of July, 81 days later.

I took delivery of my bike in February 2009, which was supplied by AD Cycles in Horsham, who specialise in building to order.  To read more about my bike, please click here.

Since then, I have been gradually accumulating all of the kit I will be needing, which isn’t as much as you might think.

It is important for a trip like this to pack as little as possible.  You can see the kit I’m taking here.

I am now one week away from setting off on my trip.  To follow my progress, you can read my blog, which I’ll be updating daily.

One final word, I would really appreciate it if you could read my charity page and consider sponsoring me.  I hope you’ll agree it’s a hugely worthwhile cause, you can find more information about it here.
